Kanamycin is white or off-white powder, odourless, hygroscopic, soluble in water, almost insoluble in chloroform or ether.
Application
Kanamycin has a potent antibacterial effect against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, S. pneumoniae, Proteus, and Pasteurella, and is also effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and Mycoplasma. However, it is not effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, anaerobes, and other Gram-positive bacteria except Staphylococcus aureus.It can be used to treat intestinal infections such as chicken dysentery, typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, avian cholera, livestock and poultry colibacillosis, among others. Additionally, it is effective against chicken chronic respiratory disease, pig wheezing disease, atrophic rhinitis, soft-shelled turtle redneck disease, and other aquatic diseases.
