Sulfadimidine base is a broad spectrum bacteriostasis, the aminobenzoic acid (PABA), can compete with PABA in the bacterial body of folic acid synthesis enzyme, which prevent the process of folic acid, reduce the amount of metabolic active tetrahydrofolic acid, and the latter is the bacterial synthesis of purine, thymine nucleoside and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) essential substances. Therefore, sulfadimethazine can inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria.

Sulfadimidine base is a white or yellowish crystal or powder that is almost insoluble in water. The product is soluble in hot ethanol but insoluble in ether. It is also soluble in dilute acid or dilute alkali solution. It has no smell and a slightly bitter taste. The colour of the product gradually becomes darker when exposed to light.

Application
Sulfadimidine base is an antimicrobial sulfonamide that induces the expression of CYP3A4 and acetylation via N-acetyltransferase. It exhibits sex-dependent pharmacokinetics, producing metabolic changes via the male-specific isoform CYP2C11, and inhibits dihydrofolate synthase, blocking folate synthesis. It can be used to prevent and control infections caused by staphylococcus and streptococcus solani, among others. It inhibits bacteria such as haemolytic streptococcus and pleurisy coccus. It is mainly used to treat avian cholera, avian typhoid fever, and coccidioidomycosis in chickens.
